It was once known as Syamantaka Mani,
having it's root deep in the myths of India,

a hindu text dating 1306 says..
'He who owns this diamond will own the world,
but will also know all its misfortunes'
The jewel later somehow find it's way
to the Malwa Rajah, who was then were forced to give it
to the Kakatiya Empire on 1306,
and very soon Kakatiya Empire met it's destruction on 1323,
and it was seized by the Tughlugs.
Shah Jahan |

trying replace establish control and supremacy.
The jewel went to the possession of each invaders
of Delhi throne, whom soon met their tragic end.
Even when the diamond came into the possession of the Mughals,
violence and bloodshed followed these years often marked
by the sons of the Emperors rebelling and overtaking their fathers.
The great Mughal emperor Shah Jahan,
famous for building Taj Mahal,
had the diamond placed in his peacock throne.
In 1639 a struggle for the Empire started between his four sons
All of them murdered each other and tortured the others family,
and by trick and cruel ways Aurangzeb the last prince
became the Sultan.
The minute Aurangazeb was coronated ,
he had his father, Shah Jahan imprisoned for life.
When the Persian king Nadir Shah looted Delhi , 1739
he seize the diamond.
Mind boggled with it's beauty and size,
he named it,
Koh- I-Noor
the Mountain of Light,
the name we all familiar with at this time.
Yet, the jewel doesnt serve him with kindness,
very soon Nadir Shah was assassinated.
The diamond was passed to his successors,
each without failing faced it's vengeful effect.
Maharaja Ranjit Singh |
Then on 1829, the descendant of Nadir Shah,
Shah Shuja , back then,
the deposed ruler of Afghanistan managed to flee with Koh-I-Noor
surrendering to Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
Maharaja Ranjit Singh demanded him to giveaway the Koh-I-Noor,
he would lend his troop to help Shah Suja.
When Shah Sujah refused, Maharaja Ranjit hit him with a shoe,
and hit him again with the shoe.
Giving up Shah Sujah agreed to fulfill the demand.
Overjoyed, Maharaja Ranjit, quickly makes an alliance
with the East India Company representing British kingdom at Calcutta.
As usual the British betrayed...
and the Sikh war I and Sikh war II erupted
and at last the Raja looses and dies in shame.
Upon then, the diamond taken to England by Lord Dalhousie,
and presented to Queen Victoria.
From then on till now,
Koh-I-Noor has been passed down
to each Queens of England,
adorning their tiara.
but wait, if Koh- I-Noor was really cursed,
then why did'nt the curse work on the Queen, or any of her descendants???
the prophesy in the Hindu scripture actually continues,
the second line says,
"Only God, or a woman, can wear it with impunity."
